To make a short story long…
Hey, thanks so much for visiting! I am honored that you have come here to check out fizom and moi. This is my story up to now… or at least how this fizom thing has evolved. Where to start… well, perhaps at the end…my mom said that my epitaph would someday read, “Kristy, she lived passionately. “ This
she said to me when I was 22. And I am very passionate about helping people live their dreams. I believe that we are all here to leave this world a little bit better than we found it. I want to help you do what you do and live to the fullest. Gosh, and hopefully have fun too.
It all started early in 1996 when I picked up a book about Feng Shui. I am still in amazement that I did, because I had no interest in “Chinese interior design” as I was not really a huge fan of the Asian esthetic, nor was interior design really a passion. Oh, I am coming into this at the middle. You see, I wasn't looking for any kind of new career. I was minding my own business, enjoying a career in theatrical design. This was make believe places and people. Was not quite interested in reality, you know, real people. I was focused. Real focused. I started designing costumes when I was in high school and worked at a costume shop doing summer stock for 2 summers prior to college. NYU's graduate design program called on me after interviewing at the undergrad program and accepted me to their program as a freshman. At 18 I moved to NYC and started college as a freshman taking graduate classes. Condensing 4 undergraduate years and 3 graduate years into 5 provided little sleep. Being in the heart of New York City afforded endless opportunity for a design career. I loved it. Loved it. I guess you could say I have an abundance of energy.
Little did I know how well that training would suit me for creating fizom. Theater design is not so far off from what I do now. Real people are not that different from those in a script and in fact – better. (I am realizing how much I love reality !)
When I was 16, I realized that theater design was my “calling” however, I
really had a deep desire to help people. Really be of service and in my
heart, I felt I should be a doctor. There is a little problem. I have an issue with blood. The medical profession was not something that I had (or have) the constitution for. I confessed my dilemma to my father (a very wise man) He soothed my tormented heart by explaining that I do help people because when people who really help people need to relax, they will be entertained by projects that I work on and then, will be better able to help others. Well, that sounded ok. And I plowed forward in my design career.
Fast forward- finished school, MFA in hand and a nice sized resume and moved to the beach in Brigantine, New Jersey . I was out to fulfill my dream of designing theater, teaching college and living at the beach. Now, we are back to me buying that feng shui book. I read, nay, I absorbed it and was skeptical. I had no idea how to pronounce it, let alone think that it could work wonders for my home or my life. At that point I was in a very difficult, abusive marriage and boy, did I need it! Moving things in my home would make my life better? OK. I tried some things. Life got better. Well wonders of wonders, it felt great! Soon, friends were coming over and raving about how great my home felt and did I get new furniture- because something was very different! Could I please come make their homes feel this good? They had plenty of time to ask, as they seemed to stay much longer than before… Hey, wait a minute! Here was a way I could help others! (Not to mention how it has helped me! I consider myself my own greatest success story.)
So, as life happens along and we go with the flow, the Shambhalla Feng Shui Institute found me and I got certified as a feng shui consultant. During my first of many certification classes, it dawned on me that feng shui
was really a system. Once I understood the principles of it, I could apply
it to anything. A creative outlet! This was so incredible! I knew that what
I had was quite a departure from the classical approach and immediately
began calling what I did "Modern Feng Shui". I was on a mission to update it. To modernize it. To bring this incredible ancient system into the 21 st century. I put my all into translating feng shui for the western world.
Right away, I found ways to interpret the system and understand the meaning and essence and apply it to modern homes and businesses. This had great appeal to many people that wanted the effects of feng shui without the esthetic usually imposed and “odd” cures that attracted attention to their homes from the non believers. It's funny at this point to even mention nonbelievers, as it is like saying that you don't believe that garbage smells bad.
The fact is, our environments have an effect on us and we can control that
to our benefit or ignore this opportunity.
I did know that someday, this Modern Feng Shui would have a name, a structure that was not called Modern Feng Shui, but I had no clue what it was. Yes, that was the twinkle in my eye of fizom.
So, I started consulting in May of 1999 and soon started doing many classes and sharing my approach. People were amazed by how much simpler feng shui could be and they felt empowered to change their lives. I am speechless with gratitude
for the hundreds of homes and businesses I have had the honor of helping. I have had many clients over the years that I have watched expand their businesses, get married, find their dream jobs… oh, I could keep going forever, but what this really is about is the everyday miracles that have become a part of my life and those who fizom.
Next came the artwork. I started creating feng shui cures and art for myself, and immediately, others were asking for copies. It all started with “Leap and the Net Shall Appear” My students encouraged magnets and little prints. This was a result of my own fizom- to create art for just me…well, now I share it. Funny how life progresses! The best part of all this? I have created a business that supports my free-spirited soul and helps people move into living their dreams. I feel blessed beyond what I ever imagined! And so, I now spend my days with people who are taking responsibility for their lives and surroundings-like you. You are proactive. You dream. You live.
So, here I am and here you are. I really feel funny writing all this, as fizom is really about you. Now that you know a little about me, I would really, really like to know about you. What do you dream of? What works and doesn't work in your life?
Who are you really? What do you value the most? How can we reflect that back to you, all around you from your surroundings? How can your home cheer you on to living in your dream awake? You deserve it!
